Samuel E. Wolf, 11, schoolboy, died attempting to save William C. Lewis, 12, schoolboy, from drowning, St. Louis, Missouri, May 30, 1913. William tried to wade across a pond and sank in deep muck on the bottom. Other boys present were afraid to go to his rescue, but Samuel, who could not swim, waded in water to his armpits and extended his arms to him. William seized Samuel and drew him under the water. A struggle ensued, and both boys sank and were drowned. 16413-1258
