Samuel J. Ranallo, Jr., helped to save Glenn E Iacono from burning, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, October 23, 1987. Iacono, 29, was trapped inside his car after it was struck by a tractor-trailer which then caught fire. Although his own vehicle had also been struck and had rolled over, Ranallo, 31, mail handler, ran to lacono’s car and, despite flames on both the car and the nearby tractor-trailer, jumped onto the car’s hood. He began to kick the windshield of the car and, with another man, was able to create an opening through which Iacono began to climb out. Grasping Iacono under his arms, Ranallo and the other man pulled him from the car shortly before it was engulfed by flame.
