Samuel Williams saved Mary R. Molchan from drowning, Plymouth, Pennsylvania, May 18, 1925. Mary, 16, fell from a bridge into the Susquehanna River and drifted with the current 200 feet from the bank. Fully clothed, Williams, 28, miner, who was not physically fit, swam 190 feet to her. She seized his wrist and they went under the surface. They rose, and Williams broke the hold by striking Mary on the jaw. He then swam more than 200 feet with her to wadable water. Williams then collapsed, and he and Mary, who was unconscious, were taken to the bank and were revived. 26800-2202
