Sanford R. Parker, Jr., 12, schoolboy, attempted to save F. Isabel Dorsey, 11, from drowning, Carthage, Illinois, December 1, 1911. (See case of C. MARTIN KIMBROUGH.) Sanford ran and crawled to the edge of the hole and attempted to pull Isabel up on the ice, but the ice broke and he fell into the water about the same time that Martin broke through. He went beneath the surface, and when he came up, he attempted to climb up on the ice, but the ice again broke under him. His sister had followed him to the hole, and she aided him up on the ice by means of a hockey stick. 7823-878
