Shawn H. Turner helped to save Molly L. Pedrone from drowning, Boca Raton, Florida, February 23, 2020. Pedrone, 34, was driving when she suffered a medical emergency and lost control of her vehicle. Her vehicle traveled off the road and entered an adjacent canal containing deep, murky water. Turner, 33, plumber, was driving nearby and stopped at the scene. Turner removed his pants and shoes, entered the canal, and swam about 15 feet to the passenger side of Pedrone’s vehicle where he saw her unconscious inside. Unable to open the door, Turner lowered the window and fully entered the vehicle’s passenger compartment through the front, passenger’s window and released Pedrone’s seat belt. Turner then pushed her out through the driver’s window to another man at the side of the vehicle as the car continued to sink deeper into the canal. Turner exited under water through the front, passenger’s window as the front half of the vehicle submerged. Turner and the other man untangled Pedrone from the strap of her seat belt and swam her to safety on the bank. Pedrone was hospitalized overnight and treated for minor injuries; she recovered.
