Sherwood Mason Blood saved Gerhold M. Wanamaker from drowning, Suffern, New York, August 24, 1931. Gerhold, 14, schoolboy, caught hold of a rope that hung from a cable above the bank of Lake Antrim and swung from the bank. He accidentally dropped into deep water 15 feet from the bank, striking his back and side on the end of an anchored boat in his fall. He struggled and was dazed. Sherwood, 12, schoolboy, who was much smaller than Gerhold and was fully clothed, dived from a pier and swam to him. With great effort, Sherwood towed Gerhold as he swam 12 feet to the pier. Gerhold was pulled upon the pier and was revived.
