Sidney M. Eaker saved Joseph M. Black from suffocation, Ringgold, Georgia, September 11, 1925. Following a dynamite blast in a well 50 feet deep, Black, 35, farmer, was overcome by fumes while working at the bottom of the well. Eaker, 24, laborer, whose legs were badly crippled, descended on a windlass rope. Removing the rope from himself, he fastened it around Black, and Black was drawn out of the well. The rope was then lowered to Eaker, and he put it around himself and was drawn out. He was somewhat dazed but soon revived. Black was unconscious for almost an hour but was revived. 25609-2142
