Sigmund Siegel died attempting to save Leonard and Louis Moskowitz from drowning, Massapeag, Connecticut, August 1, 1922. Leonard, 13, student, became distressed while swimming in the Thames River 50 feet from the bank, where the water was eight feet deep. His brother Louis, 15, student, swam to his aid, and they grasped each other and went under the surface momentarily. Louis, almost exhausted, grasped a light raft, which was pushed to them, and he supported Leonard on it and clung to it. Siegel, 33, real estate and insurance agent, wearing his clothing, swam 40 feet to the raft and took hold of it, and the raft tilted. Siegel disappeared and was drowned. Leonard rolled off the raft when it tilted and was drowned. Louis lost his hold on the raft but regained a hold and later was taken to the bank. 23291-1987
