Stanislaus Orlemanski, 55, crossing watchman, attempted to save an unidentified man from being run over by a train, Erie, Pennsylvania, July 24, 1912. The man walked toward a track on which a passenger train was approaching at a speed of 20 m.p.h. Orlemanski started toward him when the train was 475 feet distant. When Orlemanski reached the man, he was between the rails and the train was 70 feet away. He grabbed the man, and the latter grasped him and resisted. Both were struck and knocked 25 feet and rendered unconscious. The unknown man died within a few minutes. Orlemanski recovered consciousness seven hours later and was disabled 68 days. 9377-750
