Stanislaw Kristoff, 13, schoolboy, died attempting to save Charles Dambkowski, 8, from drowning, Sagaponack, New York, August 14, 1920. Charles, who was wading in Sagg Pond, lost his balance and was carried by his struggles into a channel, where the water was 12 feet deep. He swallowed water, threshed violently, and was submerged several times. Stanislaw waded to within 10 feet of Charles, plunged, and got Charles on his back. He attempted to swim to the bank, but the weight of Charles forced Stanislaw under water. His head appeared once, and he then disappeared and was drowned. A man swam to Charles and took him to the bank. 20685-1624
