Stanley Hugh Davis helped to rescue Clyde E. Allison from an attacking bull, Port Neches, Texas, October 12, 1997. Allison, 67, was in a pen herding free-range cattle onto a river barge when he was knocked to the ground and gored by a three-year-old bull weighing 1,000 pounds. Assisting with the job, Davis, 34, refinery operator and cattleman, was seated atop the fence that enclosed the pen. He jumped into the pen and approached Allison as another man who had entered the enclosure distracted the bull. Davis aided Allison to his feet, then climbed with him over the fence to safety. The other man also climbed the fence to safety. Allison was hospitalized overnight for treatment of severe wounds that required more than 200 stitches. He recovered.
