Stanley L. Flohr saved Arthur F. Kriner from suffocation, Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, March 5, 1978. In the early morning, fire broke out in the basement of a double dwelling, one side of which was occupied by Kriner, 73, and his wife. Flohr, 62, a neighbor, was attracted and ran to the house, where he found Kriner’s wife in the kitchen and took her outside. Learning that Kriner was upstairs, Flohr re-entered the dwelling, where flames were spreading rapidly in the other half of the house. Smoke was increasing as Flohr ascended the stairs and found Kriner at the top of them. Small flames had appeared on the stairs as Flohr led the dazed Kriner down them to the first floor. Both men emerged safely from the dwelling, coughing from the dense awoke.
