Stephen Esparza helped to save James B. Ezell from burning, Fontana, California, October 28, 1986. Ezell, 57, was the sole occupant of a motor home that was struck by an automobile on an interstate highway. The impact caused the motor home to overturn and slide, and fire erupted on its undercarriage. Esparza, 39, real estate broker, witnessed the incident and ran to the motor home. He broke a hole in the windshield and completely entered the vehicle for Ezell. Another man arrived shortly and also entered the motor home. Together they freed Ezell from his seat and carried him through the windshield to safety. Shortly after, the motor home’s fuel and propane tanks exploded, engulfing the vehicle in flames. Ezell was hospitalized for injuries received during the crash, and he recovered.
