Steven Eugene Blake died after attempting to help save Johnny Y. Wakamatsu from electrocution, Provo, Utah, August 10, 1988. Wakamatsu, 70, lost consciousness and fell to the ground after touching a truck that had made contact with a 7,200-volt power line. Blake, 21, college student, was traveling in the vicinity when the accident occurred. He immediately approached Wakamatsu and, with another man, grasped him. They too were shocked and lost consciousness, and a third rescuer was shocked when he attempted to rescue Blake. Blake was removed from the scene and hospitalized after the power was turned off, but he died 16 days later of his injuries. Wakamatsu survived, also requiring hospitalization for his injuries.
