Steven W. Blake rescued Dianna L. Smith from homicidal attack, Bloomington, Indiana, June 14, 1982. Confronted in a parking lot by a man armed with a knife, Mrs. Smith, 19, fled and was stabbed in the back several times as she ran. When she tripped, her assailant fell upon her and continued to stab her. Having just parked nearby, Blake, 33, postal clerk, ran at the assailant while he was poised over Mrs. Smith and kicked him in the face. A struggle ensued in which Blake overpowered the attacker, who dropped the knife, and held him on the ground until police arrived. Mrs. Smith required surgery for her stab wounds, and she recovered.
