Suzanne Beaucher rescued a girl from assault, Windsor, Quebec, June 23, 1992. A 13-year-old girl and her brother, 11, were riding bicycles in a wooded area of a municipal park when a man surprised and stabbed the brother. The girl interceded, struggled against the assailant, and called for help. From nearby, Ms. Beaucher, 35, homemaker, heard the girl scream. Ms. Beaucher approached the assailant and yelled at him to stop; when he did not, she jumped on his back, grasped him by the neck, and pulled on him. The assailant turned to Ms. Beaucher and stabbed her in the chest, then fled the scene. He was later apprehended by police. The girl required hospital treatment for her injuries, and she recovered; her brother died of his stab wounds. Ms. Beaucher was hospitalized three days for treatment of her stab wound, from which she recovered.
