Svanhild M. Brynhildsen saved Ellen M. Christensen from drowning, Edgartown, Massachusetts, August 22, 1923. Miss Christensen, 25, and Miss Brynhildsen, 24, cook, with the latter’s sister and a man were sailing late at night in Edgartown Lower Harbor when their boat capsized, throwing them into water 20 feet deep 1,000 feet from shore. Miss Brynhildsen, who was fully clothed, swam a few feet and separated her sister from Miss Christensen. The sister then swam to shore, and the man sank and was drowned. Although Miss Christensen struggled almost continually, Miss Brynhildsen swam 900 feet with her to wadable water. Miss Brynhildsen was greatly fatigued. 24529-2182
