T. Hall Brehme, Jr., 25, salesman, saved Mary E. King, 13, and Thomson King, 41, sales manager, from drowning, Ocean City, Maryland, August 6, 1926. While Mary and her father were swimming in the Atlantic Ocean, they were carried by a current to a point 550 feet from shore. Brehme swam through very rough water and breakers seven feet high to Mary, supported her briefly, and then at her request swam 60 feet farther out to her father. Mary soon got hold of a life preserver that drifted near her. Brehme found it impossible to tow King nearer shore, but while both floated, Brehme supported King from time to time for at least 10 minutes. A lifeguard then swam to Mary from a boat that stayed shoreward of the breakers and towed her to the two men, and then he towed the three, clinging to the life preserver, 375 feet to the boat. Brehme was fatigued. 26573-2230
