Tawlie I. Corbitt, 21, millhand, saved W. Gordon Clemmons, 11, and three other boys and J. J. Wesley Pate, 26, farmer, from drowning, Noma, Florida, April 10, 1926. Gordon and three other boys fell from a raft into deep water in the pool below the Noma sawmill dam 33 feet from the bank. They clung to each other and were mostly submerged. Fully clothed, Miss Corbitt swam from the bank to them, caught hold of one of the boys, and had Gordon take hold of her dress at the back while she swam with them to the bank. She then swam back to the third boy and took him to the bank. She swam out again and dived and brought the fourth boy to the surface. About this time Pate, who had swum out to aid, got in distress near the fourth boy. Miss Corbitt put the boy on the raft, which had been pushed to her, and swam 10 feet to Pate. He grasped her, and both were submerged. Under the surface she broke his hold and then took him a few feet to the raft. Pate pushed the raft to the bank, and Miss Corbitt swam to the bank. 26212-2232
