Thaddeusz J. Wawrzon died attempting to save John Homa from drowning, Berea, Ohio, March 15, 1931. John, 6, slid down a steeply sloping bank and fell into water six feet deep in the Rocky River. He struggled, getting 10 feet from the bank, and then was carried along in a current of 2 m.p.h. Thaddeusz, 13, schoolboy, who was heavily clothed, jumped into the water from the top of a ledge that rose vertically for three feet above the water, swam to John, and took hold of him. They then drifted in the current for 12 feet, became separated, and continued to drift. John was rescued a little later by a youth. He was unconscious but was revived. Thaddeusz was drowned.
