Thomas David Donohue died attempting to assist in saving persons from drowning, Newtown, Pennsylvania, July 4, 1973. Celeste M. Altimari, 18, and John D. Hafner, 19, called for help as they clung to their rubber raft, which was lodged against a low dam in Neshaminy Creek. Also in difficulty in the turbulent boil of water below the dam was Alfred P. Pacini, 16. Thomas, 17, high school student, jumped from the bank of the creek into the turbulent water and began swimming toward the persons in trouble. He had progressed about 50 feet when he sank and drowned. Miss Altimari and Hafner were removed from the water by others, but Alfred drowned.
