Thomas F. Bonsall, 27, telephone company assistant traffic superintendent, saved an unidentified man and woman from drowning, Ocean City, New Jersey, September 13, 1927. While the man and the woman were swimming together in the Atlantic Ocean, the man got into distress. The woman supported him as they drifted to a point 250 feet from shore. Bonsall, who was somewhat weak from a recent illness, waded from shore and swam 175 feet to them. He took hold of the man and began to swim toward shore with him. He had scarcely started to swim before the woman, stating she could not swim to shore, took hold of his bathing suit and caused him to be momentarily submerged. Bonsall then supported both and called for help. About five minutes later, lifeguards reached them and took the man and the woman to shore. Bonsall swam unaided to shore and collapsed from weakness. He soon revived. The woman was not affected. The man was unconscious but was revived. 27881-2378
