Thomas Jefferson Tackett saved Alverna M. McConnell, 17, and died attempting to save Irene B. Kibble, 21, from drowning, East Liverpool, Ohio, June 27, 1926. Tackett, 22, bricklayer, who was fully clothed, ran into the water and made a long surface glide to the two girls and forcibly separated them. Miss Kibble then grabbed him, and after a brief struggle he sank and was drowned, Miss Kibble remaining at the surface until she was rescued by a good swimmer. (See case of ALVERNA M.
