Thomas McGown, 33, wire-worker, saved Michael Gahagan, 17, from drowning, Worcester, Massachusetts, June 18, 1905. While swimming in a pond 20 feet from the bank, Michael called for help. McGown swam out to him and was clasped around the body by the drowning boy. In the struggle that followed, McGown got close enough to the bank to reach the hand of one of three companions, who, in a line, had waded in as far as they could go. 736-129
