Thomas Motter saved Theresa B. Jones from drowning, Lake Winola, Pennsylvania, August 7, 1926. While Mrs. Jones, 33, was wading in Lake Winola, she stepped into water eight feet deep 20 feet from shore. She caught hold of a girl, who was swimming close to her, but released the girl and grabbed her husband, who had swum to aid her. After a serious struggle, her husband finally freed himself and swam to wadable water. Motter, 18, painter’s apprentice, who was not strong physically and was dressed, swam 12 feet to Mrs. Jones. She grabbed him, and a prolonged struggle ensued, in which Motter was scratched at the throat. Finally, Mrs. Jones became unconscious, and Motter swam 12 feet with her to wadable water. Motter was gasping and was fatigued. Mrs. Jones was revived. 26538-2203
