Thomas O. Doyle, 22, student, saved Edward Hart, 8, from drowning, Worcester, Massachusetts, January 18, 1911. Doyle ran 150 feet over ice, which at times cracked under him, to Edward, who had broken through into the Blackstone River where the water was over eight feet deep. He lay on the ice and grasped Edward, but the ice broke a moment later, and Doyle fell into the water. He swam to the edge of the ice, pushing Edward before him, and they were rescued by boys who lay on the ice and formed a chain. 7212-611
