Timothy J. Sullivan saved Jacob J. Milender from drowning, Boston, Massachusetts, January 21, 1933. In darkness, Milender, 34, merchant, jumped from a bridge into water 21 feet deep in Fort Point Channel and drifted to a point 25 feet from a pier of the bridge. Sullivan, 38, investigator, who was in poor physical condition and had been advised against entering cold water, descended steps to the pier, dived seven feet to the water, and swam to Milender. Holding Milender, Sullivan swam 12 to 15 feet toward the pier and then got hold of a life preserver attached to a rope. Men on the pier pulled Sullivan and Milender to the pier and then drew Milender upon it. Sullivan climbed on timbers to the top of the pier. 32792-2781
