Tommie Dean Brandt helped to rescue Valerie M. Allen from assault, Tacoma, Washington, March 21, 1987. At night, Miss Allen, 23, was being attacked in a parking lot by a man armed with a knife. Brandt, 34, plastics and rubber fabricator, heard her scream and, accompanied by another man, ran to where the assailant had pinned Miss Allen to the ground and was attempting to stab her. Confronted by Brandt, the assailant got up from Miss Allen and lunged at Brandt, stabbing him in the chest. The other man pulled Miss Allen out of the assailant’s reach. The assailant fled in his pickup truck after attempting to run down Miss Allen and her rescuers. Miss Allen and Brandt required hospital treatment for their stab wounds, and they recovered.
