Tony Baker, 45, laborer, rescued E. P. Perkins, 52, well-driller, from electric shock, Marianna, Florida, April 14, 1952. While standing beside a drilling rig, Perkins started the motor of a derrick mounted on the rig. As the boom of the derrick neared a vertical position, it came in contact with a high-tension wire carrying 6,900 volts of electricity. Perkins was shocked and became unconscious but continued to stand with his hands tightly clutching the levers of the motor. Smoke rose from his feet. Running 10 feet for momentum, Baker shoved forcibly against Perkins’s shoulder with both hands and freed him from the levers. Baker also was shocked and fell to the ground. Perkins, who sustained severe burns, was revived. He was hospitalized nine weeks. Baker suffered a hand burn which healed in ten days. 3850-42653
