Trafton T. Buchanan, 15, schoolboy, saved James C. English, 10, from drowning, Renovo, Pennsylvania, June 6, 1928. James fell into the West Branch of the Susquehanna River and drifted in a current of 5 m.p.h. 10 feet from the bank. When several men made no attempt to give aid, Trafton, fully clothed, jumped into the river and swam to James. Holding him with one hand, Trafton tried to swim directly to the bank, but he drifted 35 feet before he got footing four feet from the bank. James was semiconscious but was revived.
