Veronica Clougherty, 15, factory hand, saved Daniel Daly, 38, motorman, from drowning, Atlantic, Massachusetts, August 1, 1917. While swimming in the Neponset River 30 feet from the bank, Daly let down in water 15 feet deep. He became excited, began to struggle, and went under the surface twice. Veronica waded from the bank and swam 30 feet to him. Daly grasped her and drew her under the surface, going down with her. Then they rose and became separated, and Veronica grasped Daly and swam 25 feet with him to wadable water. 18664-1585
