Vicente H. Calderon, who helped to rescue Harry 0. Oxford, Sr. from burning, San Jose, Calif., March 15, 1972. When his pickup truck was badly damaged in an accident and fire broke out at the engine and in a camper attached to the bed, Oxford, 44, was injured and rendered unconscious. The flames increased and spread; and ammunition carried in the camper was exploding as Calderon, 27, highway patrol officer, and another man ran to alongside the cab, in which the fire then was extensive. With an extinguisher, Calderon put out most of the flames on Oxford. Heat was intense as Calderon and the other man reached into the cab; and each sustained minor burns as they pulled Oxford out. He recovered after hospitalization for injuries and extensive burns. 52675-6021
