Volgar N. Peterson, 16, student, saved August Peterson, 48, merchant, from drowning, Pine River, Minnesota, July 13, 1919. While swimming in Norway Brook 30 to 35 feet from the bank, August lost control of himself, struggled, and was submerged two or three times in water eight feet deep. Volgar swam from a platform 30 feet to August, who was then under water. August immediately grabbed him with both arms, and both sank to the bottom, but Volgar broke away and rose. August, still submerged, then grabbed Volgar’s foot and pulled him down to his mouth but soon released him. Then Volgar let himself down, took hold of August’s bathing suit, rose, and swam five feet with him to a boat, which was being taken to them. 22407-1917
