W. Benjamin McAnally, 17, farmhand, saved Robert L. Morrison, 33, farmer, from suffocation, Plano, Texas, March 22, 1909. Regardless of the remonstrances of another man, Benjamin had himself lowered, with two ropes around him, one old and weak, to the bottom of a 38-foot well, where Morrison had been overcome by dynamite fumes. Feeling a pain in his chest, he asked to be raised and was hoisted partway out. After taking a few breaths of fresh air, he was lowered again. He removed the strong rope from himself and fastened it about Morrison, who was drawn up. The rope was lowered again, and Benjamin tied it around himself and was hoisted. Mor-rison was revived in an hour. 4628-385
