W. J. Bryan Bogart saved Paul A. Christensen from drowning, Kirwin, Kansas, June 19, 1923. Bogart, 18, student, and Christensen, 19, student, were bathing in the North Fork of the Solomon River, and Christensen was caught in an eddy just below a dam and could not keep himself up. The water was seven feet deep. Three other boys tried to help him but left him because of his struggling. Bogart then swam to Christensen, who grasped him. Bogart broke away, but Christensen again grasped him with a firm hold, and they were carried by the eddy into the main current. As they drifted, holding to each other, they were under the surface at intervals, and Christensen became unconscious. Bogart continued to hold Christensen until a man reached them, just as they drifted near wadable water. The man swam with them a few feet, and others helped them to the bank. Christensen was soon revived. 23373-1955
