Wade H. Plummer saved John M. Gibson from drowning, Lamar, South Carolina, May 7, 1904. Wade, 15, schoolboy, having just reached goal in a swimming race, swam to Gibson, 19, his competitor, who had been taken with a cramp in the middle of Lynches River, and, after two attempts, rescued him, despite the commands of his father to desist.
