Wallace R. Brewster, 15, student, sustained fatal injuries attempting to rescue John E., 8, and Carl F. Robison, 11, from a runaway, Canastota, New York, June 28, 1919. Wallace was standing in a buggy and had just assisted John up beside Carl on top of a loaded hay wagon, to which a team of spirited horses was hitched, when Wallace’s horse started to run away. The team then began to run in the same direction as the horse. The horses had gone about 10 feet and were rearing when Wallace, on the ground, attempted to grasp the reins. He was knocked down and stepped on by one of the horses, and one of the wheels went over him. Carl slid off the wagon to the ground, and John remained on the wagon until the team came to a stop after running some distance. Neither John nor Carl was injured. Wallace died as a result of his injuries five days later. 19913-1626
