Walter H. Murbach saved John I. Allen, 13, from drowning, Elyria, Ohio, February 16, 1906. After swimming 30 feet in the West Branch of the Black River, breaking ice before him, Murbach, 22, machinist, became almost exhausted, and returned to the bank. Then, partly supported by a frame door, he made a second attempt and effected the rescue 90 feet from shore.
