Walter J. Beck, 22, waiter, died attempting to save Anna V. Johnson, 27, from drowning, Kennebunk Beach, Maine, August 26, 1915. Miss Johnson was bathing in the Atlantic Ocean and was swept 100 feet beyond the wadable limit by the undertow and a strong river current. Beck swam to her and was seized, and a struggle ensued. When it was seen that he was in distress, a motorboat started toward him, but Beck sank and was drowned before the boat reached the scene. Miss Johnson was still afloat and was saved. 15342-1189
