Wesley C. Patton, 15, schoolboy, attempted to save Walter F. Liddle, 38, carpenter, from drowning, Buffalo, New York, January 19, 1929. Wesley, who was a poor swimmer, ran 150 feet over broken ice and extended a stick to Liddle. When he had pulled Liddle part way out of the water, Liddle grabbed Wesley’s hand, and the ice on which Wesley stood began to sink. Wesley jerked his hand free, jumped to other ice, and saved himself. (See case of WALTER F. LIDDLE.) 29079-2325
