William A. Cross, 16, student, saved Michael W. Colton, 24, from drowning, Maple Lake, Minnesota, July 19, 1906. William, who weighed much less than Colton, went to the latter’s assistance in Maple Lake, 60 feet from shore, where the water was 10 feet deep. Being pulled under, William struck Colton, rendering him unconscious, and then supported him until both were rescued by a man in a boat. 1741-178
