William B. Simson, 57, lawyer, saved Raymond Sprenger, 9, from drowning, Tonawanda, New York, January 15, 1911. Simson, suffering with a severe cold, left his home and ran 200 feet to Ellicott Creek toward Raymond, who had broken through thin ice at a point 45 feet from the bank where the water was 14 feet deep. He plunged into the water, caught the boy, and, breaking the thin ice about him, swam near the edge of the solid ice, from whence he and the boy were gotten out. After the rescue, Simson collapsed but was revived. Raymond was unconscious but recovered. 5977-480
