William C. Cavett, 26, farmer, saved Edward D. Smith, 27, farmer, from suffocation, Gladewater, Texas, August 4, 1910. Cavett went down a ladder into a 26?foot well, from which he had previously ascended because of the presence of gas, to rescue Smith, who had been overcome and had fallen to the bottom as he was being drawn up. Cavett tied a rope around Smith and climbed to the surface, and Smith was then drawn up and revived. 6096-601
