William D. Waldock died saving Inez S. Sears from drowning, Aledo, Texas, April 21, 1924. Inez, 17, while swimming in Mares Lake, became distressed in water 10 feet deep. William, 16, student, who had warned Inez not to enter the water, ran 700 feet to a point opposite her and then swam 45 feet to her. He then expressed a fear that he would be unable to swim back to the bank. Inez grasped him around the neck, and both were submerged. She then released him, they rose separately, and William took hold of her and swam 35 feet toward the bank. Then, being unable to swim farther, he gave her a push, and she caught hold of an overhanging branch and drew herself to wadable water. William, after pushing Inez, immediately sank and was drowned. 24206-2000
