William Duane Slaughter attempted to save Edward W. Dunn from being struck by an automobile, Albion, Michigan, October 13, 1924. Edward, 3, stood on a street in the path of an automobile, which was approaching at a speed of 20 m.p.h. Duane, 13, schoolboy, ran 25 feet to him, lifted him, and took a step, and then both were struck by the automobile. They were dragged for 20 feet before the automobile was stopped. Edward was badly bruised. Duane suffered a fractured skull and other injuries and was disabled a month. 24710-2149
