William F. Baker attempted to rescue Linda G. McLean-Jenner from assault, Plymouth, Massachusetts, January 8, 1993. Ms. McLean-Jenner, 42, was in the nursing home where she was employed when a man armed with a knife seized her and forcibly moved her through a corridor toward the building’s door. Seeing the struggle, Baker, 42, an orderly at the nursing home, immediately approached the assailant and grasped him in an attempt to free Ms. McLean-Jenner. As Baker fought with the assailant, during which he was stabbed, Ms. McLean-Jenner, also stabbed, broke free, but the assailant pursued her and resumed his attack. Although wounded, Baker again approached the assailant; he took him to the floor and disarmed him. Police arrived within minutes and arrested the assailant. Ms. McLean-Jenner died shortly of her injuries. Baker was hospitalized five days for treatment of his stab wound.
