William G. Wathen, 17, student, saved Gordon W. Dalrymple, 13, schoolboy, from drowning, Milford Station, Nova Scotia, June 9, 1922. While wading in the Shubenacadie River, Gordon stepped from a bar into deep water 25 feet from the bank. William swam 30 feet from wadable water to Gordon and grasped his wrist. Gordon immediately grasped William, and they went under the surface with Gordon on top of William. William then succeeded in breaking Gordon’s hold and continued to hold Gordon by the wrist. During a struggle under water they moved 20 feet to wadable water, and William dragged Gordon to the bank. Both were exhausted. 24111-2033
