William George Lee saved Linwood W. Roberds from being killed by a train, Estill, South Carolina, February 10, 1947. Roberds, 69, retired farmer, who was hard of hearing and used a cane, stood on a track without noticing that a passenger train was approaching at a speed of eight m.p.h. Lee, 47, station agent, ran 45 feet to the track ahead of the train and between the rails eight feet to Roberds, whom he grasped in his arms and pushed back from the track, barely clearing the locomotive, which passed them at unreduced speed. 41017-3547
