William Grant Stroud, 43, garage service manager, saved James Baker, 37, garage assistant foreman, from drowning, Taylorsville, Indiana, July 15, 1928. While Baker was swimming in the Driftwood River, he became distressed in deep water 30 feet from the bank. Stroud swam 75 feet to him and took hold of him. Baker grabbed Stroud and they were submerged. Stroud freed himself and rose to the surface. He then dived to Baker, drew him to the surface, and swam about six feet with him. A boat then reached them, and they were taken to the bank. Baker was unconscious but was revived. 28644-2382
