William H. Chittum, 13, schoolboy, saved Robley E. Sweet, 11, from drowning, Columbus, Ohio, May 24, 1914. Robley fell from a dam into the Scioto River and became distressed. A good swimmer went to him but became engaged in a struggle with him and left him. William swam to Robley, seized his hair, and swam 15 feet with him. Others met him and relieved him of Robley, and William then swam 10 feet farther to water waist deep. Robley was unconscious when brought to shallow water, but he recovered. 14179-1303
